Pray for the Kenyan elections

Pray for the Kenyan elections

Join us in praying for peace during the Kenyan elections today. Voting is under way amidst tight security in a re-run of the presidential election, which is being boycotted by the main opposition, Raila Odinga

President Uhuru Kenyatta was declared the winner in an August vote, but Kenya’s Supreme Court took the unprecedented decision to annul the election and demand a re-run citing “irregularities and illegalities”.

Police and other security personnel have been deployed to protect voters and polling stations. In 2007 more than 1,100 Kenyans died and 600,000 were displaced after a disputed election – an outcome nobody wants to see repeated.

Compassion Kenya specifically ask us to pray for:

  • Free, fair and peaceful general elections that bring justice and cohesion.
  • Good leaders who will serve the Kenyan people and stand up to corruption and injustice.
  • A government who will prioritise the needs of the poor and vulnerable.

“But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!” Amos 5:24
