Cyclone Idai: Pray With Us

Hundreds of people have been killed and hundreds of thousands more have been affected by Cyclone Idai which swept through Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe. The cyclone, which made landfall on 14 March has caused disastrous flooding and is being described by the United Nations as potentially, “one of the worst weather-related disasters ever to hit the southern hemisphere”.

Mozambique was the hardest hit, with the UN estimating that 1.8 million people have been affected. The World Food Programme predicts 1.7 million people in the country will eventually need help as a result of Cyclone Idai.

Though Compassion doesn’t currently work in southern parts of Africa, our prayers are with all those who’ve been affected.

How you can pray for those affected by Cyclone Idai

Join us and share a prayer for those who have suffered trauma and loss. Please pray for:

• Food, water and medical supplies to reach all those affected, especially people living in remote or cut off areas.
• Those on the ground who are working around the clock to reach survivors and bring relief.
• God’s comfort to be with all those who’ve lost loved ones, and those whose loved ones are still missing.
• For children who have been separated from their parents as a result of the disaster.

A prayer for Cyclone Idai

Heavenly Father, we pray for all those who’ve been affected by Cyclone Idai. When we see a disaster of this scale it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and helpless. We thank you that you know each and every person and family impacted, and we ask that you pour out your love and provision over them.

Lord, we pray for those who are involved in the rescue and relief efforts. We ask for your strength and protection over them. In Jesus’ name, amen.
