Isn’t it insensitive to increase the sponsorship rate during such a challenging UK economic climate?

Here in the UK, we’re all witnessing the impact of high inflation. The costs of food, gas, electricity and transport costs have increased significantly, and we’re also seeing increases in everything from mobile phone bills to household rents and mortgages.

As challenging as our experience is, the impact is even worse for children and families living in poverty. Far more of their daily income is spent as a proportion on food, fuel and housing, and inflation is much higher (for example, it’s currently inflation rates to 23% in Ghana and 23% in Haiti). Over the last 70 years Compassion has served the world’s most vulnerable children and families by helping to meet their most urgent needs. The cost of meeting those needs has grown, and after prayerful consideration we believe it is necessary to update the monthly sponsorship rate to £32 per month.

We have no plans to further increase the sponsorship rate again anytime soon. Although this feels like a large rise, due to inflation £28 in 2020 had more purchasing power than £32 in 2024, and we are always trying to find ways to be more efficient and effective with your donations.
