Despite steps to rebuild the economy, Aids and continued warfare in the north keep the majority of Ugandans in deep poverty. There are an estimated two million orphans of Aids and war. Aids is also thought to be responsible for the increase in the number of child labourers and street children.
Compassion’s work in Uganda began in 1980. Over 40,000 children are now being assisted in church-based projects.
