About 24 million Mexicans live in extreme poverty. Because of this, many children move from one place to another, with or without their families, which has resulted in a large number of them working instead of going to school. In Mexico City, millions of people live as squatters and up to 600,000 children are thought to be sleeping on the streets.
Compassion’s work in Mexico began in 1976 and nearly 14,000 children are now helped through church-based projects.
