Life for an average Ethiopian is harsh: infant mortality is high and most of the population does not have access to basic health care. According to Unicef, Ethiopia is very severely affected by HIV/Aids: about 1.5 m (2003) people are living with HIV/Aids and an estimated 1.2 million children have been orphaned.
Compassion started its ministry in Ethiopia in 1993 and currently helps over 55,000 children through church-based projects.
