The majority of the population in Brazil lives in industrial cities such as Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Rapid growth in the urban population has created serious problems with some 20 million people living in the slums and millions of children living on the streets. The children making their living from the streets are subject to drug abuse, prostitution and violence.
Compassion’s ministry in Brazil started in 1984. There are currently over 33,000 children helped through church-based projects.
