3 Things to Pray for Kids This Universal Children’s Day

Universal Children’s Day was started in 1954 to promote the welfare of children around the world. It’s celebrated on November 20 as this is when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child.

Join us as we mark Universal Children’s Day by praying for some of the most vulnerable kids in our world.

  • Praise God that Compassion’s child development programme empowers kids to overcome poverty and become advocates in their families and communities.
  • We give thanks for children like Neyfer, a courageous young lad who hasn’t let his disability stop him from speaking up for the visually impaired in Honduras. This remarkable 12-year-old even had lunch with the president to campaign for more newborn eye screening tests.
  • We give God the glory for stories of children restoring hope to their families. “They used to call me ‘king’ in our community since I was the king of bad news,” explains 34-year-old Joey from the Philippines. “If someone needed drugs, to hurt someone or protection, they came to me.”  Trapped in gang crime and drug abuse, Joey was at crisis point. It was only when his 8-year-old son Hurley took him by the hand and led him to church that things started to change.
  • Pray that Compassion-supported children will be given the support, skills and resources they need to become change-makers in their nations.

“People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.” Mark 10:13-16 (NIV)
