At the start of a new year, here are 5 things to pray for in 2018.
In a hurting world, we want to pray for more of God’s justice and hope. For more of His Kingdom to come.
“your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:10
We pray for those facing insecurity, persecution and uncertainty. For families living each day with the reality of conflict, famine and crisis.
And we pray for children in poverty who are often the most vulnerable when disaster strikes.
Where there is conflict, whether on a national scale or within one family, Lord we pray for your restoration. We praise you for your faithfulness in answering prayers and reuniting families in the Compassion programme last year.
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.” Colossians 3:17
Where there is corruption and greed, God we pray for your justice and your truth to overcome. We praise you for the courage of those standing up and fighting injustice.
“But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!” Amos 5:24
Where there is need and suffering, Father we pray for your provision and comfort. We remember those impacted by the refugee crisis, and families who have lost homes in recent natural disasters including Tropical Storm Nate and the Mexican earthquakes.
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19
Where there is despair, we pray for children and families to know your eternal and unfailing hope.
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth” Psalm 121: 1-2
Globally we pray for your Church: your hope for a hurting world. Father we pray for local churches across the globe who are bringing your light into their communities. We pray for your Church to be mobilised to reach out and care for the poor and marginalised.
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14
In Jesus’ name, amen
