Tune into Premier as Compassion UK is Featured as Charity of the Year

Listen to Premier on 3 and 4 July to hear powerful stories of God's church on the move in Uganda.

Premier Charity of the Year 2025

This year, we’re partnering with Premier Christian Radio to highlight the incredible impact of the local church in releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name.

You can tune in to Premier on 3 and 4 July to hear powerful stories of transformation, interviews, and inspiring messages about how Compassion’s church partners are changing lives.

“There’s a ripple effect. After being sponsored with Compassion, I’m now a lawyer currently working on 250 cases looking to secure justice for children and young people.” John, Compassion graduate

The church is on the move in Mbale, Uganda

The start of Compassion UK’s partnership with Premier is focused on celebrating how the local church is supporting children in the Mbale region of Uganda. 67% of households in Mbale are multi-dimensionally poor. People not only face low incomes, they lack basic health provision, education and endure poor living standards and social exclusion. We’re inviting Premier listeners to join the mission to tackle this injustice by sponsoring a child from one of Compassion’s 10 church partners in the region.

The stories you’ll hear

We’re excited to share firsthand accounts from children, church leaders, project workers and Compassion graduates who’ve seen God moving and bringing change to their local communities. Here is just a preview of the stories you’ll hear:

“When I grow up, I want to be a doctor because I want to help people and reach people. My favourite things at the project are food and learning about God. I love computer learning.”

“Child protection is a big issue in our community. But we’re here to serve and protect children. We work so closely with Compassion to see that these children are protected at all times. We train their caregivers, we train them to protect themselves, to take charge of their lives, to know their rights and responsibilities. … We also do community education. These children are a focal point to reach out to the entire community … our message is far-reaching, it goes far beyond the ones we serve.”

“After being sponsored with Compassion, I’m now an advocate of the High Court of Uganda, and also an entrepreneur with interests in renewable energy, real estate and water.

“My childhood was really hard. My mum died when I was 12, my dad was an alcoholic and I was tasked with bringing up my three younger brothers. I really want to thank Compassion and the church for the impact they had in my life. A family I had never met invested their resources into me. My life was never the same again and I would probably be dead right now if I didn’t have the opportunities. And it’s not just my life. There’s a ripple effect. I’m currently working on 250 cases looking to secure justice for children and young people.”

An exciting partnership year ahead

Throughout the upcoming year, we’re working with Premier to celebrate the way Jesus leads his people to move, bringing hope and opportunity to children living in poverty.

Compassion UK Chief Executive Justin Dowds shares, “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Premier once again. This collaboration is more than just a partnership— it’s a movement of God’s people responding to his call to love our neighbours and move with compassion against the injustice of child poverty. Progress in tackling poverty has drastically slowed, with 333 million children still living in extreme poverty. By working alongside local churches around the world, we’re seeing lives transformed in Jesus’ name. Through Premier’s incredible platform, we can share these powerful stories and invite more people to follow where Jesus is leading—to bring hope to more children, more quickly.”
