Introducing Communities
We see the devastating reality of child poverty and want to respond as Jesus would.
Through Communities, you’ll support church-led, locally tailored child development programmes, in some of the world's poorest communities, equipping children to overcome poverty. As children receive practical support and learn of Jesus' love for them, lives are changed, families are strengthened, communities are transformed, and the impact continues for generations.
And it all starts when we follow Jesus' lead and move with compassion.
Why the local church is so important
For over 70 years, we've partnered exclusively with local churches around the world to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name. These trusted church partners bring deep cultural understanding, local knowledge of community needs, and strong relationships that make lasting change possible.
Why your support matters
Children living in poverty face challenges of low family income, economic instability, poor nutrition and limited access to education, healthcare and other vital resources. The effects of which can last a lifetime and pass from one generation to the next.
What your support provides
Through locally led initiatives run by our trusted church partners, every activity is tailored to meet the specific needs of the children and their wider community.
Your monthly giving helps children across multiple communities access:
Education, school uniforms and other resources to support learning
Medical care and nutritious meals for long-term health
Christ-centred guidance to encourage hope
Vocational training for future opportunities
Social and play activities to build confidence
Support for mothers and babies (where needed)
It also contributes to an annual community gift which our church partners can use to meet any additional local priorities. For example, this might fund classroom furniture, catering equipment, a water tank or anything else that meets their specific community needs.
What is the need?
Communities across the countries we serve face significant and varied challenges. These include high levels of poverty, low school enrolment, limited access to healthcare, and vulnerability to hunger and disease; all of which affect children and families differently depending on the local context.
Our trusted local partners help us identify the most urgent needs and direct support where it will make the greatest difference. To illustrate the scale of need, in the Karamoja region of Uganda, one of several communities we work alongside has a poverty rate of 60.2%, far above the national average of 21.4%. Families there face severe food shortages, a high prevalence of preventable diseases, and significant safety and wellbeing risks.
What impact is possible?
The impact of locally led initiatives varies by community, but we consistently see children gaining opportunities to learn, thrive and build a hopeful future. Example from the Karamoja region of Uganda:
“School enrolment was one of the causes of high illiteracy and one of the greatest challenges. We are glad to report school enrolment for participants in the programme in one community is at 100%, with all 252 children now in school. For the first time, we have a child sitting for Primary Seven level, the final stage of primary school.”
