Once upon a time, in Peru, a young girl named Hilda believed that her life did not matter.
“We didn’t have money for food, and I was very scared. I felt like nobody cared about me and I didn’t matter,’ Hilda remembers.
Hilda was born into a family of ten children, trapped in devastating poverty. Everyone in the family lived in one poorly constructed room.
Hilda’s father suffered a debilitating injury that robbed him of the ability to provide for his family. Suddenly there was no money for food.
With her family’s descent into poverty, it was going to take a miracle for Hilda to grow up nourished and educated.
Being sponsored was God’s miracle for Hilda
When Hilda was 9, she was chosen by a Compassion sponsor and her life changed.
Through her sponsor’s support Hilda received received food, clothing, health checks and an education. She also joined a loving community that supported her dreams and ambitions.
Hilda began to believe that her life had value, and she had a future.
After successfully graduating from primary school, Hilda is now a university graduate and primary school teacher. She supports her family, and is now putting her sister through college.
Hilda’s transformation wasn’t instant. Her road to freedom was a long and hard one. It all started with a vital first step – someone choosing to be her sponsor.
As a result of being sponsored, Hilda’s whole community is being positively changed. Impacting the life of one child, in Jesus’ name, really is this powerful.
