Update: Flooding Caused By Hurricane Michael: Pray With Us

We've received an update from our Honduras office following Hurricane Michael. The storm brought heavy rain, severe flooding and landslides to the country, with the central and southern regions being the worst hit. Schools have been opened to provide temporary shelters.

We know that 84 Compassion-supported children have been impacted. Be assured, we'll be in touch directly if we hear news that your sponsored child has been affected.

During this time the Honduras office are using Disaster Funds to provide children with water, meals, hygiene kits and clothing. Our staff are working tirelessly to ensure children receive the care they need.

Please continue to lift Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua in your prayer. Pray for:
Comfort and safety for families who have lost homes or personal possessions in the floods.
Protection over areas still at risk from further landslides and flooding.

Local church as they minister to their communities. Pray they will be a beacon of light in the midst of this disaster.

Hurricane Michael has caused widespread heavy rains and flooding across Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua over the last few days.

In El Salvador, several areas across the country are experiencing flooding and landslides. Roads are blocked and communications are down in some eastern communities.

The government has issued a nationwide advisory, suspending school and other youth activities for 48 hours due to the forecast of continued rains. Church partners have therefore paused all Compassion project activities during this time.

Be assured, Compassion staff are carefully monitoring the well being of children and have begun to distribute emergency supplies thanks to our Disaster Fund. To date, Compassion El Salvador confirm that 18 Compassion-supported children have been impacted.

We're still awaiting news from our Honduran and Nicaraguan offices as to the impact of Hurricane Michael. We will update this post as soon as further information is available. As always, we will contact you directly if your sponsored child is impacted.
