The Compassion difference

Our approach to fighting poverty is highly focused and personal. We show every child that they matter, linking them with one sponsor whose support gives them hope and a future.

Christ Centred

Jesus is at the heart of what we do. As a Christian charity we respond to God's call to love our neighbour and care for the poor. Whilst Christ's love motivates us, we help children and families from all backgrounds, regardless of belief.

Church Based

We run our programmes exclusively in partnership with local churches who know their communities inside out. During this season, this is particularly important as decisions about responding to urgent needs are being made by local people.

Child Focused

We intentionally focus on caring for children, the most vulnerable to the devastating effects of poverty and the COVID-19 pandemic. We support children in every area of their lives, tackling the root causes of poverty that hold them back.

Empower a child like Angelyn

Angelyn's world fell apart when she discovered her dad was dealing drugs.

"One day I opened the door and I just saw drugs," she says.

"Every time my classmates asked me about my family or what's the occupation of my parents I didn't tell them directly the truth because I was ashamed ...

Now my father has stopped selling drugs because he has seen that I am a new person! Whenever his friends are in our house he always tells them, o my daughter, she is so excellent and she is doing great. I am very grateful.

Having a sponsor is a great impact to me because it helps me be strong. It motivates me, it encourages me"

Build relationship with a child like Violet

"We have three great daughters who have had such amazing opportunities growing up in the UK and we felt we wanted to give some of that back to girls around the world.

We had the incredible opportunity to go to Uganda and meet one of our sponsored children, Violet. Because we were told Violet was shy, we weren't expecting the moment when she ran to us. There was no stopping her! It was like we'd known each other ever since she was born, and we'd been apart for so long.

Violet has no parents. She has a lot of half siblings and cousins and two grandmothers. The only income they have is when they sell a goat to get income to pay bills. It was incredible to see first-hand that sponsorship and the Compassion programme was empowering her and supporting the whole family." Paul and Linda Coleman, Norwich

Develop a leader like Sameson

"My name is Sameson. When I was five-years-old my mother left me at my aunt's house. I didn't realise she wasn't coming back for me. Nobody spoke my language and I didn't have enough to eat.

I can still remember the day when our neighbour took me to the Compassion project. It felt like I had gone from one world to another. At the project I was given extra tuition. I was taught woodworking and this is how I now make an income. I run my own woodworking business.

My old project arranged for sponsored children to learn training from my workshop. I'm very happy to be a role model. Looking back, I am very grateful for the opportunities I have been given."
