Tanzania is one of the poorest countries in the world. The economy is heavily dependent on agriculture, but conditions limit cultivated crops to only 4 per cent of the land area. At the moment the greatest single threat to Tanzania’s development is HIV/Aids. An estimated 1.6 million people live with HIV/Aids and the number of orphans, mostly from Aids, is estimated at almost 2 million.
Compassion’s work in Tanzania began in 1999. There are currently over 40,000 children receiving help in church-based projects.
