Natural disasters, the unequal distribution of land and wealth as well as corruption have hindered the development of Honduras. Many children suffer from malnourishment and disease and often work to help their families. Poverty has led to thousands of children living on the streets, where they are being abused, exploited for sex and killed by police as part of an unofficial social cleansing programme.
Compassion began helping children in Honduras in 1974. Currently over 25,000 children are being assisted through projects.
