In Guatemala most of the population lives in poverty. High crime rates, illiteracy and low levels of education hinder social development. Infant mortality and malnutrition continue to be serious problems, and due to plummeting coffee prices and droughts families find it increasingly difficult to feed their families.
Compassion began helping children in Guatemala in 1976 and is currently assisting over 28,000 children in church-based projects.
