Compassion works through local churches overseas to release children
from economic, social, physical and spiritual poverty.
The local church is a powerful resource. Local Christians have
knowledge of the specific needs of their communities, and provide integrity,
long term commitment and Christian support to children and their families.
Compassion provides resources, training, support and expert advice to help the
local church operate a Compassion project.
What each project provides
Each project meets the following core needs in the most appropriate
way for the children in that community.
- Healthcare
Checkups, medicines, nutritional advice, meals or food supplements,
education on hygiene and HIV/Aids.
- Education
Formal teaching in a school or project, school equipment and
uniforms, tutoring for parents on importance of education.
- Vocational training
Training in a skill which will help them find employment, guidance
with making decisions about the future.
- Social and emotional care
A safe place to play and learn, home visits from social workers,
good role models.
- Spiritual care
A chance to hear and respond to the Gospel, Christian role models,
their own personal Bible. Last year alone over 80,000 children came to know
Christ through the work of Compassion.
What you can do
It costs just £18 a month to sponsor a child. The child you help will have just
one sponsor; you. Through letters, pictures, and prayers, you develop a
personal relationship with your child. Your impact will be immense as you take
an active interest in the life of your child.
