Heavy Rains in Colombia

19 December 2011

Heavy rains and flooding continue to occur throughout Colombia.

In the Magangue municipality, the homes of 27 children attending Pena de Horeb Student Centre were damaged. Having experienced damaging floods back in September, a number of families have been impacted again. Project staff are working with them to determine the most effective ways to help.

26 children from CDI Coheredreros Del Reino, Cali, were affected when a local river overflowed and flooded their homes. All of the families have been temporarily relocated and project staff have been able to visit and provide for their needs. Church members are supporting these families with their prayers.

Please pray for the country of Colombia as it continues to deal with heavy rains and flooding. Please continue to ask for the Lord’s protection of our children, project staff and their families.

In late November, heavy rains caused flooding in Municipio de Bello, located 12km northeast of Medellin. Twenty-two children from Bello Student Centre were displaced from their homes, three of which were completely destroyed. Staff members from the project provided support such as clothing, groceries, building materials and kitchen utensils for affected families.

Please pray for the families whose homes have been damaged or destroyed by the flood.

Compassion Colombia will keep us updated as more information is available.
