James MacLeod

Hi, my name James, I love Jesus and I am a proud Cornishman. I served a four year electrical engineering apprenticeship with the local water company here, and now work for SWW full time. Outside of work I have the privilege of being involved with my home church in Camelford, and a great youth club in the town of Wadebridge, which is so much fun. I consider any day without at least some time spent outdoors a waste, and I can't wait to explore Kilimanjaro, hopefully all the way to the top! The only snag will be being away from my beautiful girlfriend Laura.

Date of Trip: March 2012

Kilimanjaro isn't a trip that I'd really ever thoguht about before this, but when I saw the leaflet come with some other Compassion correspondance it caught my attention in a way I cound't have expected! This is a 10day trip to climb the hight point in Africa, Kilimanjaro, the highest free standing mountain in the world. The goal is raise a minimum of £2000 pound for Compassion's Leadership Development Program. This program aims to give the necessary support for a University education to a selcted group of young people who have come through the sponsorship program and shown the potential to do great things, in this case four young people from Africa. During my time helping out in the Youth Club I have been amazed by the potential our young people have and I am so excited to see where they'll end up. So I'm chuffed to be part of offering these young Africans similar opportunities and I am equally expectant.

Fundraising Target: £2000

I really like Compassion, I sponsor a little girl called Tarn from Thailand. What i really like about Compassion is that they give a face to problems of poverty. Sometimes I feel exasperated at the magnitude of the task when considering poverty, but projects like this remind me that it is not just about the big picture, the state of a nation, but each individual is precious. EVERY LIFE GIVEN IT'S DUE OPPOURTUNITY IS A VICTORY. This is where something like the Leadership Development Program is important, because it takes that one victory and works towards turning it into many more.
